Castle Cluggy

PLAGUE AND PESTILENCE

Added on 13 March 2020

THE CORONAVIRUS pandemic is obviously having a huge impact on all of our lives. We are acutely aware that, as the spread of the virus continues, many people will sadly suffer from the virus, and we are all anxious about it. Plagues were a fairly common event in daily life in the old days and they took a tragic toll. No-one was exempt. There  is a large mound not far from Castle Cluggy at the westerly end of Loch Monzievaird, to which a melancholy historic interest is attached. It is the burial place of a number of victims who died of the dreaded plague which ravaged the area in the early part of the 17th-century.
